Nutrition Study Day
This course is suitable for any healthcare professional that is in contact with patients either in the community or hospital setting, including; practice nurses, district nurses, health visitors and hospital based staff nurses/sisters.
Using presentations the basic principles of nutrition through the lifespan will be explored.
Course Content
- Introduction to Nutrition, Nutrition in Pregnancy, Nutrition in Childhood, (including obesity). The Role of Diet in Irritable Bowel Syndrome, The Health Benefits of Soy Consumption and Nutritional management in the elderly.
- This is a one day course providing an overview of the nutritional needs of individuals from birth through to old age.
Learning Outcomes
- You will be able to describe the process of nutrition assessment and its importance in the prevention of malnutrition
- You will be able to advise pregnant mothers and those wanting to conceive on general nutritional advice to maintain a healthy pregnancy and promote conception.
- You will be able to describe the aetiology of childhood obesity and current treatment/prevention.
- You will be able to describe the role of the diet in the management of IBS
- You will be able to appraise various health claims associated with the consumption of soy products through the lifespan.
- You will be able to advise elderly clients in the basics of good nutrition and be able appraise and describe the latest nutritional recommendations in the prevention of cognitive decline.
